This key laboratory was approved to be established in 2001 by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal Education Commission. Professor Ma, Chongfang serves as its director while Academician Guo, zengyuan serves as the Chairman of the Academic Committee.Based upon the national strategy target “Energy-saving and Emission Reduction” and “Low-carbon Economy”, the laboratory concentrates its research on the research and development of the advanced high-efficiency energy conversion technology in order to provide full solutions to the energy problem in Beijing and China. The laboratory focuses on the following four research fields:1) Advanced Energy-saving Theory and Practical Technology: High-efficiency heat-work conversion technology in low-temperature heat source, waste pressure energy recovery, Anti-fouling & Anti-frost technology.2) Basic Theory and Advanced Technology of Renewable Energy: Solar energy and geothermal energy.3) Enhanced Heat Transfer Technology and Micro-energy Systems: Enhanced heat transfer and its application, molten salt heat transfer, Micro-channel heat sink, Fuel cell technology, mini cooling, heating and power system.4) Research and Development on Refrigeration Compressor and Refrigeration Systems: Single-screw compressor and Expander, Heat pump technology, and Liquefaction of flammable gas.At present, the laboratory hosts a permanent staff of 21 researchers (including 7 full professors and 7 associate professors), most of which hold PhD degrees. There are more than 90 postgraduate students in the laboratory. As the supporting institution for both the post-doctoral research center and doctoral degree program of Power Engineering and Engineering Thermal Physics discipline in Beijing University of Technology, the laboratory has an enrollment of about 30 Master and PhD graduate students every academic year and also provides education training for the undergraduate students of New Energy Science and Technology majors in Beijing University of Technology, international students and short-term educational programs. In the past 5 years, the laboratory has absorbed over 40 million Yuan of research funds, including 5 projects by National Key Fundamental Research & Development Program (also called 973 program), 8 projects by National High Technology Research and Development Program projects (also called 863 Program), 12 projects by National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 100 other projects. With the support of these funds, it has published more than 300 papers including 71 SCI academic papers. In light of the vision of Beijing University of Technology, “relying on Beijing, merging into Beijing, inspiring China and orienting itself to the world.”, the laboratory strive to assist the economy and development of Beijing and promote the Energy-saving Emission Reduction and Low-carbon Economy in Beijing. Our strategies rely on paying equal attention to basic research, application research, as well as product development, and establishing a multi-disciplinary as well as international academic structure. It is our collective aim to provide technology support and full solutions for low-carbon economy in Beijing, and to be a centre for excellent and leader in engineering education.
